UN Anti Racism Day National Demo-18 March 2017 (London)

On March 18th, PTUC will be joining the Stand Up To Racism demonstration for UN Anti-Racism Day. Hopefully it will be the biggest yet and show that Theresa May does not speak for us when she blames migrants and refugees for the problems cause by austerity and the financial crisis, and that we are united against racism, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism.

In the light of the Home Secretary’s shocking decision in October 2016 not to grant an inquiry into “The Battle of Orgreave” the OTJC are planning our biggest and noisiest Demonstration to Date. Get along if you can!

Our NHS Demonstration, London – Saturday 4th March 2017

We have been asked a number of times whether or not we will be going or organising for this demonstration. Well… we are not. And that isn’t because we aren’t behind it, it is only because it is clashing with our Women’s Festival, which has been planned for sometime.

Peterborough Women’s Festival 2017 – Women and Education

Following the very successful event last year a programme of events is being put together for 2017.

This programme is very much together now.

Saturday 4 March – The main event will be at the Town Hall from 11am-3pm. This will feature speakers on this year’s theme of Education. There will be women’s campaign and interest group stall holders. And, there will be breakout/workshop rooms including a talk by Andrea Needham about her book The Hammer Blow. Peterborough Archive Service will also be holding an exhibition and talk. Also Art and Poetry workshops.

Dare Devil Rides to Jarama – 19 Oct 2016

Townsend Productions Dare Devil Rides to Jarama
A performance of this play commissioned by the International Brigades Memorial Trust and based around two British men fighting at the battle of Jarama in the Spanish Civil War (1936 / 7) is going to be held in Peterborough. More about the story here:

Heart Unions Week 8-14 Feb 2016

8‑14 Feb 2016 / The heart unions week of action celebrates the great work done by union reps and members in our workplaces and in society. We’re proud of our unions and reject the government’s attempts to damage them with the (Anti) Trade Union Bill.

In support of this PTUC will be holding a public meeting from 19:00-21:00 on Tuesday 9 February at City College Peterborough (Speakers TBC) and a street stall on Sunday 14 February.
